St Lucia to Long Pocket shuttle bus service

A free shuttle bus runs between St Lucia campus and Long Pocket for UQ staff, students and authorised visitors. 

Timetable and route 

  • Runs Monday to Friday 
  • No bookings required for UQ staff and students, simply swipe on using your UQ ID card or building access card
  • No service on public holidays or during university holidays
  • Trip duration 10–15 minutes
  • Non-stop route is between:
  • Drivers may stop at other locations within Long Pocket on request if it is safe to do so.

Real-time tracking and delays 

Delays may occur due to traffic or breakdowns.

Use the UQ SafeZone app to track the bus in real time: 

  • Go to ‘Buses’ in the app menu 
  • View live GPS location of the bus .

Delay notifications 

To receive alerts if the bus is delayed: 

  1. Go to ‘Notifications’ in the menu and tap 'Manage Groups' 
  2. Choose to receive notifications about the Long Pocket shuttle.  

If the bus contractor is aware of any delays, these will be sent to your mobile. 

Get visitor access 

Visitors doing UQ-related work 

Visitors undertaking UQ-related work should use their affiliate ID card to travel on the Long Pocket shuttle bus. Apply at least 3 days ahead of your planned journey. 

  1. Apply for an affiliate account
  2. Request an affiliate ID card

Other visitors 

Visitors who are not undertaking UQ-related work must apply for a permit to travel on the Long Pocket shuttle. To apply, email the UQ Fleet Office at transport@uq.edu.au.

We recommend applying well ahead of your planned journey. Allow at least 3 business days for processing.

The Fleet Office will consider your request and contact you with the outcome.

Terms and conditions 

The shuttle bus service is for UQ staff, students and authorised visitors only. It is not a public service. It is managed by the Property and Facilities Division and operated by Belbaker Group PTY LTD.    

  • Swipe on/off with your UQ ID or access card 
  • Seat belts must be worn 
  • Bus enters Long Pocket via Gate 4, exits via Gate 1
