Professor David A Clark

Prof Clark is a visiting colorectal surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He qualified from the University of QLD in 1991, trained in surgery in Brisbane, and undertook colorectal fellowships in the United Kingdom. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh in January 2002.

He is a Professor for the University of QLD and runs a busy clinical practice at the St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside. He has a strong interest in inflammatory bowel disease and the IBD Unit at the RBWH has an active academic program. Prof Clark has presented internationally in the field of IBD and minimally invasive colorectal surgery.

The colorectal unit based at the RBWH has a commitment to education and runs a regular laparoscopic colorectal training course and now supports 3 colorectal fellows and a research co-ordinator. He is a board member of the ANZ Training Board in Colorectal Surgery (ANZTBCRS) and the recent convenor for the Society and Section scientific meetings.

Prof Clark heads the Brisbane Colorectal Reseacrh Unit (CRU) and completed a PhD at the University of Sydney in June 2022. He concurrently supervised 4 PhD candidates through UQ. He is widely published in the fields of minimally invasive surgery and inflammaory bowel disease.

Brisbane is renowned for minimally invasive colorectal surgery and training and teaching are a passion.

Professor Craig A McBride PhD, FRACS, FACS is a full-time Senior Staff Specialist Paediatric Surgeon at Children's Health Queensland. He is also an educator, a researcher, and a father to two boys. In addition to his public work, he has a private practice at www.betterkids.com.au.

Professor McBride is originally from Aotearoa/New Zealand and worked in three of the four Paediatric Surgical units in that country, before moving to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne for the final two years of his surgical training. Following Fellowship in 2007, he moved to Brisbane and has been here ever since.

He has specialised interest and expertise in thoracic, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, burns and trauma. He is also a member of both the Children's Health Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee and the Clinical Ethics Response Group at Queensland Children's Hospital, as well as being involved in the Queenslannd Children's Critical Incident Panel and the Clinical Incident Subcommittee of the Queensland Paediatric Quality Council.

Dr Lahann Wijenayake is the Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Queensland. He is a Brisbane based orthopaedic surgeon having obtained his FRACS and FAorthA through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is also an Associate Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Medical Administrators. Dr Wijenayake is a surgeon at the Queensland Children's Hospital. He has a keen interest in medical student teaching as well as research in the field of paediatric orthopaedics, orthopaedics, and medical student education.
