Equity, diversity and inclusion
A place to be yourself
When we bring together our different perspectives, approaches and expertise we are more creative, more innovative, and bolder in our work.
Our commitment
We are a diverse community of like-minded people who embrace our differences, knowing they are our strengths.
Gender equity
We are dedicated to improving gender equity in the workplace. We have a range of initiatives to increase the proportion of women and gender-diverse people working at UQ, including in senior positions and research. We are focused on closing the gender pay gap and removing barriers that prevent women from participating equally in the workforce.
Indigenous employment
We are committed to employing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in all academic and professional roles and levels. An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network provides our Indigenous employees with regular opportunities to gather, share stories, connect, and celebrate achievements. Learn more about Indigenous employment at UQ.
Cultural and linguistic diversity
We value the contributions of staff from different cultures and we offer a range of support for culturally and linguistically diverse staff, including those who have newly arrived in Australia. We celebrate diversity through events and festivals held across all our campuses.
LGBTQIA+ pride
We take pride in our diverse LGBTQIA+ staff, who contribute to the richness of our community. We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, including those with diverse sexualities and genders. The UQ Ally Network supports our LGBTQIA+ staff.
Disability inclusion
We are dedicated to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for staff with disabilities. Our UQ Disability Inclusion Advocacy Network supports staff members who have a disability or care for someone with a disability.
Age friendly
UQ is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all ages. Our Age Friendly Committee works to encourage the participation of older adults in the core activities of the University. UQ is also working with Dementia Australia to become Australia’s first dementia friendly university.

Award-winning Ally Network
Our Ally Network provides a visible network of staff who create a safe space for people of diverse sexes, genders and sexualities at UQ.

Championing women in STEMM
UQ’s bronze Athena SWAN award recognises our commitment to advancing the careers of women in STEMM.

Reconciliation Action Plan
UQ’s Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (Stretch RAP) outlines the measurable actions we are taking to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

My work at UQ is extremely rewarding, as I get to inspire the next generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to pursue higher education. One way we do this is through the InspireU Program, which is designed to empower students to see themselves at the University.

The UQ Ally Network and inclusive culture at UQ allows me to bring my authentic self to the workplace. I am proud to be part of UQ’s diverse community and to help create an accepting and safe space for everyone.
