Is Queensland's economy resilient to an energy shock? (2017-2020)

The research seeks to understand the sensitivity of the QLD economy to a dual energy shock, in the form of increased costs for industry accompanied by reduced revenue for energy miners as a result of global pressure to reduce carbon emissions. To pursue this research, a comprehensive energy database will need to be populated with data that is not currently available. Part of the project will be to gather this data with assistance from Department of Energy and Water Services (DEWS) without which the collection of the data will not be possible. The project addresses QLD's Science and Research Priorities by seeking to identify measures that can help prepare QLD for the consequences of an unexpected energy crisis; build digital infrastructure through the creation of an energy database for public research; facilitate plans to foster resilience to risk related to global climate policies which will impact on QLD's economic and employment future.
