Dr August is a Registered Nurse, a post-doctoral MRFF Research Fellow at University Queensland, and the Nurse Research Co-ordinator for the Grantley Stable Neonatal Unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She has over 20 years’ experience in Neonatal and Paediatric critical care settings, including retrieval services in far north Queensland. August is one very few Neonatal Nurses who has training in Skin Integrity, with a number of publications related to neonatal skin assessment. August’s PhD explored neonatal skin injuries from mechanical force (awarded July 2022). Clinical experiences have cultivated Deanne's desire investigate and evaluate clinical practice, with a specific focus on minimizing the sequalae of necessary care such as medical adhesives or vascular access. Her program of research has included systematic reviews, randomised control trials, case control, longitudinal studies, and international practice guidelines. Within studies she considers the effect of clinical workloads, implications on hospital systems including economic evaluation, and especially the neonatal/family experience. Dr August is recognised nationally and internationally as an expert in neonatal skin integrity and injury assessment; with a growing track record with 16 peer reviewed articles published and international confrences invitations in the past 5 years.

Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrician with a dual qualification in Sleep Medicine
Honey trained initially at UQ and the Mater Chidlren's Hospital before spending time in Melbourne at the RWH and RCH ( Murdoch Institute)Her Doctorate in the Behavioural and Attentional consequences of Adenotonsillectomy was completed through the University of Nottingham where she was a Lecturer in Community Paediatrics.
She has a significant role in teaching and assessment in the Paediatrics and Child Health rotation and has a strong interest in medical education. Her clinical work involves children with a variety of Developmental and Behavioural problems as well as a number of clinics that specialise in Sleep disorders for this population. She also runs a specialised clinics for some genetic disorders.
She has a number of research interests that reflect her clinical practice.

Dr. Ayaho Yamamoto is the Group Leader of Laboratory Science at the Children's Health and Environmental Program and is a research fellow in the field of Biomedical Science. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanistic links between environmental exposures and adverse respiratory outcomes. In particular, she focuses on the cellular responses following air pollution exposure and/or viral infection on human respiratory epithelium, and the age differences in immune defence mechanisms. Investigate on early intervention strategies with dietary antioxidants to improve respiratory health and reduce the risk of long-term chronic diseases.
Dr. Yamamoto has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Public Health; her research focused on childhood asthma. She has a Master of Science in Biomedical Science and Pharmacology; the research focus was to understand the mechanisms and to test new drugs for osteoporosis and chondrosarcomas metastasis. She has worked in a Uni-based start-up company for drug development.

Professor Peter Sly is the Director, Children's Health and Environment Program. Professor Sly is a NHMRC Leadership Fellow (L3) and an emeritus paediatric respiratory physician with extensive research experience in respiratory physiology, developmental immunology and children's environmental health. Professor Sly’s research aims to understand the mechanisms underlying chronic childhood lung diseases in order to improve clinical management and to delay or prevent their onset, with consequent reductions in adult lung diseases. A combination of basic science, longitudinal cohort studies and translation of research findings into clinical practice, including clinical trials, are included in three main areas: asthma, cystic fibrosis and children’s environmental health
Professor Sly is an advisor to the World Health Organisation Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Disease and currently serves on International Advisory Boards and committees, including: WHO network of Collaborating Centres in Children’s Environmental Health; Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development (CHILD) Study, Canada; the Infant Lung Health Study, Paarl, South Africa; and A SHARED Future: Achieving Strength, Health, and Autonomy, through Renewable Energy Development for the Future.

Professor Roslyn Boyd is Scientific Director of the Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre (QCPRRC) an internationally recognised research group at the University of Queensland in the School of Medicine. The centre includes a multidisciplinary team of 38 researchers and in addition provides clinical research leadership to 60 clinicians from multiple disciplines in the state-wide Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service based at the Queensland Children's Hospital. After primary training and experience in Australia and London as a physiotherapist she completed her PhD in neuroscience at La Trobe University, the Brain Research Institute and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in Melbourne for which she was awarded the Premier’s Commendation by the Victorian Government. Prof. Boyd arrived at the University of Queensland in 2007 as a recipient of a Smart State Fellowship and more recently has led an EBrain program grant funded by the Qld Government Department of innovation. Her research team focuses on research on the early natural history of motor and brain development for preschool aged children with CP, the efficacy of novel rehabilitation for children with Hemiplegia and very early detection and early intervention for infants at high risk of CP (all funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia). This research program is underpinned by advanced brain imaging including functional imaging of the motor and sensory motor cortex, Diffusion Imaging and Functional Connectivity to assess the impact of training on neuroplasticity (NHMRC, ARC). Prof. Boyd has been awarded the prestigious international Gayle Arnold Award on 3 occasions at the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine. Prof Boyd has published over 340 manuscripts in peer-reviewed international journals and has achieved over $40M in research funding.

A/Prof Wayne Nicholls is a highly regarded paediatric oncologist who currently holds the position of Director of the Oncology Services Group at Queensland Children’s Hospital. Additionally, he serves as the Clinical Director of the Ian Frazer Centre for Children’s Immunotherapy Research (IFCCIR) at the University of Queensland. A/Prof Nicholls is committed to supporting the translation of research into clinical practice, with a particular emphasis on the treatment of paediatric, adolescent, and young adult (AYA) brain tumours and sarcomas.
He is a strong advocate for the advancement of immunotherapy research and treatment options for children with cancer. Under his leadership at the IFCCIR, efforts are focused on the development of novel and innovative immunotherapies that address the unique challenges associated with high-risk paediatric cancers and other immune-related diseases. His work is driven by a deep commitment to improving outcomes for young patients and their families.

Tamara is a trained respiratory scientist and has 7 years' experience in measuring the lung function of children aged 3-18 years. She has recently completed her PhD whereby she validated the use of normal healthy reference values for two lung function tests (spirometry and fractional exhaled nitric oxide) for children who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. She has a particular interest in childhood respiratory illnesses such as cystic fibrosis and asthma, emerging clinical measurement techniques, as well as Australian First Nations respiratory health. Her current research aims to better understand the mechanisms of early CF lung disease and to improve current clinical outcome measures to aid in appropriate CF management.

Andrew is a trained paediatric respiratory and sleep scientist working at the Queensland Children's Hospital. He has recently completed his PhD looking at (1) the effect of early childhood respiratory infection on lifelong lung function, (2) lung function as a future predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and all-cause mortality, (3) the effect specialist paediatric and adult respiratory outreach services are having on the lung function of children and adults seen and treated, and (4) which spirometry reference equation is most appropriate for use in Australian First Nations children and adults, and (5) has developed moving age-for-height fractional exhaled nitirc oxide (FeNO) reference values for use Australian First Nations childen and adults to faciliate better interpretation of FeNO test results. His current research is focused around improving paediatriac sleep disordered breathing diagnosis and monitoring using technologies such as novel devices and artificial intelligence, particularly in children with neurodisability.
