Overview

Background

Cameron Turner is the Entrepreneur in Residence and an Industry Professor at the UQ Business School. In this role he teaches innovation and entrepreneurship at a Masters and MBA level, and supports researchers to achieve impact. Cameron has spent more than 30 years working at the translation and commercialisation interface between research and industry. He has unparalleled skills in facilitating and negotiating engagements between research organisations and a wide range of stakeholders outside of the research landscape.

Cameron has created 4 start-ups, is an inventor on 2 patents, developed multiple new brands and products and works closely with innovators, entrepreneurs and researchers to help them identify new value creation opportunities. rCameron regularly provides strategic planning, consulting, and training for large public and private commercial and research organisations. He is a national leader helping researchers develop an understanding of industry needs through ethnography and the development of translation models to increase adoption and ultimately impact. For eight years he facilitated OnPrime training programs for CSIRO helping over 500 Australian scientists identify potential translation partners for their research. In 2023 cameron co-facilitated Australia's national deep tech start-up Accelerator - ON Accelerate.

Research impacts

Cameron has worked across numerous industries inlcuding large funded projects with the Australian Defence Force, CSIRO, Sugar Research Australia and the Austaralian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

Cameron has raised millions of dollars for research translation and commercialisation from corporates, venture capital, business angels, and government funding programs. Cameron formed four start-up companies which have raised over $10 million investment and government funding. All of which are still operating –

Over the last 10+ years Cameron has developed and ran innovation training programs for industry and researchers helping over 1000 Australian scientists identify potential translation partners and impact potential for their research. In 2023 cameron co-facilitated Australia's national deep tech start-up Accelerator - ON Accelerate.

Cameron has developed a new innovation logic, method and tactics called "Humble Discovery". Cameron has been teaching Humble Discovery in his MBA and Masters of Entrepreneurship and Innovation capstone courses for the last 5 years. In 2024 Cameron launched a new digital innovation resource called "The Game Changers Playbook". This new practical online course will help researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators, PhD students and anyone wanting to solve puzzles and mysteries with a new human centred approach to challenge status quo.
