The physical and metaphysical foundations of structural realism (2012-2013)

Abstract

It is widely accepted that contemporary fundamental physics, in particular quantum theory and the general theory of relativity, has deeply changed our conception of the world. This research project aims first to present in a detailed way the main features of fundamental physics that challenge the traditional atomistic conception of nature according to which the world is made of a plurality of independently existing entities that enter into relation to one another. Then it aims to develop a metaphysics of structures that accounts for these fundamental physical features. The major outcome will be to provide a comprehensive interpretational framework for contemporary fundamental physics (to be exposed in a monograph and research articles).
