Designing Plasmon-enhanced Photocatalysts for Solar-driven Water Pollutant Removal (2013-2015)

Abstract

Photocatalysis underpins the development of critical environmental and renewable energy technologies. Built upon our prior research strength in functional materials and photocatalysis, this project aims to develop a new class of composite photocatalysts containing metal nanoparticles and semiconductor metal oxides with enriched reactive facets, which are expected to have drastically plasmon-enhanced photocatalytic performance for organic contaminant removal from water using solar energy. The program will advance the understanding of photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants and ultimately results in highly efficient photocatalysts and technology for water purification.
