Investigation of stability and power quality issues from the wide spread PV integration into electricity distribution networks (2011-2014)

Abstract

Distributed Photo Voltaic (PV) penetration levels in the Australian electricity grid are still very low. However, with the 20% Renewable Energy Target by 2020 the scenario will change significantly. Network instability and poor power quality are the two major technical impediments for successful integration of large scale PV generation in power distribution systems. This project is aimed to address the reactive power/voltage management problem and power quality issues arising from the imbalance between PV output and demand due to faults, passing clouds and negative interaction between PV panels and other devices. Comprehensive methodologies and control strategies will be developed for custom power devices in mitigating these problems.
