Developing the next generation of single and entangled photon sources (2012-2014)

Abstract

Single and entangled photons are important resources for quantum information. However, current sources are the major limitation to fully explore the potential of this field. This project will develop the next generation of low noise, as well as efficient sources of single and entangled photons suitable for application in quantum information. These sources will be developed by combining state-of-the-art semiconductor quantum dots with classical optical devices. Modern methods in quantum optics and information will be employed to fully characterise their performance. These sources will also be applied to demonstrate quantum information tasks which are currently not feasible.
