Systematic Prioritisation of Action for Confronting Invasive Vertebrates in Australia (INVERSE) (2013-2019)

Biotic invasions threaten Australia's biodiversity, economy and human health. This study will use novel decision support tools to generate the first systematic prioritisation protocol for confronting invasive vertebrates in Australia. I will test fundamental drivers of invasion success, developing a state-of the-art, spatially-explicit information system of invasive vertebrate introductions, distribution and impacts. Delivered outcomes will allow policy makers to more effectively mitigate biotic invasion threats. This will be one of the first studies globally to disentangle the relative role of climatic, biotic and socioeconomic factors shaping invasion at a continental scale, placing Australia at the forefront of invasion biology research.
