A world-class rock magnetic facility to support Australian palaeomagnetic and environmental research (ARC LIEF Grant administered by ANU) (2012-2013)

Abstract

We propose to develop a world-class rock magnetic facility to enable a full range of analyses needed in forefront palaeomagnetic and environmental magnetic research. The facility will serve wide-ranging multidisciplinary research needs in tectonics, environmental change, geochronology, geomagnetic field behaviour and understanding crustal magnetic anomalies that align directly with Australian research priorities. The requested equipment will be unique to earth science laboratories in Australia and will enhance the existing Black Mountain Laboratory, ANU, which is the best-equipped laboratory in the southern hemisphere. The combined instrumental capability will place the facility among a handful of internationally leading facilities.
