Genetics of longevity and the delay of post-reproductive senescence (2005-2007)

Abstract

We have discovered a previously unknown gene associated with longevity and oxidative stress resistance in the model organism C. elegans. This gene will be cloned and the biochemical function of the gene product will be characterised using the tools of functional genomics and bioinformatics. This will reveal the mechanism of protection against oxidative stress which will then be applied to the prevention of ageing and senescence in human cells
