Detection, Characteristics and Dynamics of Airborne Engineered Nanoparticles for Human Exposure Assessment (ARC Discovery Project administered by QUT) (2011-2013)

Abstract

The rapid expansion of nanotechnology, along with the increasing utilisation of nanomaterials, have raised concerns about the safety of airborne nanoparticles present in numerous commercial and research facilities. At present, quantitative understanding of their concentration in the air is basically non-existent, as is knowledge on their dynamics within these facilities, or validation of potential methods for their detection. The overall aim of this project is to enhance fundamental understanding of the emission and transport of engineered nanoparticles in the air at the facilities where they are generated, which is critically needed for controlling workplace exposure to these particles, and thus minimising the risk to human health.
