Quantum states of matter: from spin liquids to superconductors (2005-2008)

Abstract

In this proposal we aim to use a combined theoretical and experimental approach to describe and understand novel quantum states of matter in chemically complex materials. We have assembled a team of world leaders in condensed matter physics quantum many-body theory quantum chemistry neutron scattering and muon science to work on this ambitious and innovative project. We anticipate the key outcome from this project will be an improved understanding of the relationship between different exotic quantum states of matter such as magnetic spin liquids and unconventional superconductors. Such knowledge could have a significant and profound influence upon next generation functional and electronic material technologies
