Knowledge And Attitudes About Life Extension Technology: Public And Stakeholder Perspectives (2006-2008)

Abstract

Developments in research to extend human life expectancy may significantly increase Australia s already-ageing population. It is not known how likely Australians would be to take up new technologies that may extend their life, or how researchers, clinicians and policy-makers should respond to this possibility. This project aims to address this gap in knowledge in order to help develop research and policy priorities by surveying the views of the community and expert key informants and policy makers about these issues. The consequences of ignoring the growing field of life extension may be severe for the social and economic health of Australia.
