Rapid functional and taxonomic skin microbe characterisation (2016-2019)

Abstract

The project will leverage established resources and add value to an University of Queensland skin microbiome program by developing (1) methods for detecting and characterising bioactive molecules released by skin microbes, and (2) a novel microspectroscopy method for rapid taxonomic identification. The Monash team will acquire independent spectra and develop classification algorithms. Agilent scientists will participate in strategic planning for applications and product development, as well as independent testing in Agilent Labs. Outcomes from this project will increase our knowledge and research tools in skin microbiome modulation of immunity, and may provide proof-of-concpet data for future commercial product development.
