Unlocking the environmental archives of the Kimberley's past (2019-2024)
Abstract
This Project brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists who aim to reconstruct the environmental history of Australia¿s Kimberley region spanning the past 60,000 years. The environmental intelligence gained will provide new understanding of the causes of environmental change and impacts on this region since the arrival of Australia¿s earliest inhabitants. This information is critical to inform interpretation of the Kimberley¿s rock art, perhaps the largest collection globally, and its associated archaeology. Results will aid decision making processes aimed to sustainably manage this remote region for future generations at a time of rapid and uncertain climate change.
