Overcoming membrane protein research roadblocks: A Queensland facility for membrane protein production and crystallisation (2012-2013)

Abstract

Membrane protein crystal structure determination is regarded as frontier research because of challenges in producing and crystallising these proteins. Our aim is to establish a unique facility in Queensland that will benefit Australian science by addressing these two roadblocks. Specifically we will enhance world-leading protein production and protein crystallography infrastructure already established in Queensland, by enabling large-scale expression of membrane proteins in a range of cell systems, and by implementing new membrane protein crystallisation and detection methods.
