Coral reef metabolism in a rapidly changing climate (2013-2019)

Abstract

While there is significant body of work on climate change in the marine environment, most previous studies have focused on the impacts for tourism and fisheries. However, the wider implications of climate change on reef metabolism (calcification, primary productivity, gas exchange) in tropical coastal ecosystems is not well understood in the face of warming and acidifying oceans. The unique outcomes of this research program will provide in-depth understanding, analytical tools and strategies for ecosystem-based management of Australia's critical coastal resources under rapid anthropogenic climate change.
