Enhancing social research in Australia using dual-frame telephone surveys (2013-2016)

Using national surveys for social research is important for the measurement of social and health related outcomes. The social research industry typically conducts surveys by sampling from lists of landline telephone numbers. However, it is estimated that one in five people are currently resident in mobile phone only households in Australia. People who use mobile phones tend to have different characteristics and outcomes to people who use landline phones only. To ensure full-coverage of the population and accurate estimates, a dual sampling framework is required that includes both landline and mobile phone numbers. This project will develop methods and practical guidelines for improving surveys and combining data arising from dual frames.
