Social Futures Orientations and Identities of Young People in Queensland (2005-2007)

Abstract

This project investigates how young Australians form a sense of self-identity in a social environment that is characterised by change and uncertainty. Social theorists argue that new social conditions give rise to new ways of thinking and acting but little systematic empirical research on these claims has been undertaken. This project will track stability and change in the attitudes values and beliefs of a large representative sample of Queensland adolescents using innovative online surveys cutting-edge statistical methodology and complementary qualitative focus groups. The project also forms the basis of an ongoing longitudinal study of life pathways in contemporary societies
