High Speed Fluorescence Imaging coupled with Total Internal Reflection Microscopy and Fluorescence Recovery After Photobleaching System (2008-2009)

Abstract

This proposal is for a Total Internal Reflection Flueorescence imaging system that will allow direct visualisation of intramolecular events and transient protein-protein interactions occurring on a millisecond time scale in living cells. The equipment will include a photo-ablation system allowing the powerful combination of imaging techniques, which will provide unprecedented insight into the dynamics of plasma membrane proteins and their mobility. This will enable researchers in cellular and neuronal biology to access sophisticated technology to pioneer their research. Understanding of the dynamics of protein and organelles and the molecular interactions underlying organelle fusion will have wide-ranging ramifications in disease treatment.
