Saibai Island Language and Cultural Knowledge Project (2017-2022)

Abstract

The project will utilise the Australian Descriptive Framework focusing primarily on the documentation versus descriptive approach to record the Saibai Island Kalaw Kawaw Ya dialect to achieve 2 main aims: 1. Develop and utilise a Saibai Island methodology under the direction of elders and cultural knowledge custodians to record and document language, and in particular `Big¿ Saibai language 2. Document cultural knowledge and language for current and future generations of Saibailagal (Saibai people) utilising the recent advances in recording technology and digital analysis to update and add to the current corpus of Saibai Island Kalaw Kawaw Ya data.
