Overview
Background
Dr Paul Treschman is a Lecturer in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences (HMNS). He is also the Deputy Director of Teaching and Learning in HMNS. He completed his PhD at the University of Queensland (UQ).
Paul’s research interests are in creating supportive and challenging learning environments, with a specific interest in formative assessment and feedback processes in general education and health and physical education settings. Paul’s teaching, research and service are all focused on dialogic processes to enhance learning and relational outcomes.

Creating a Climate of Learning
Creating supportive and individually challenging learning environments. Exploring how task design, relational and evaluation processes, and learning spaces/environments influence students’ motivation, learning, and behaviour. Research is largely informed by Self-Determination Theory, Achievement Goal Theory, and Ecological Psychology. Research is in tertiary and school-based education settings, in both general education and health and physical education contexts.

Formative Assessment and Feedback
Exploring how teachers and students can be mutually activated in dialogic feedback processes to enhance learning outcomes. This approach shifts feedback from being viewed as a one-way transmission of information, to an opportunity for shared and divergent understanding of success. Such work focuses on questions and the further engagement in peer and self-regulated feedback and assessment opportunities to enhance learning.
