A high-throughput screening and sequencing facility for single cell genomics (2012-2013)

Abstract

We propose to create a state of the art Single Cell Genomics Facility that will be the first of its kind in Australia. The Facility will comprise high throughput sorting and plate handling equipment based at the University of Queensland and high throughput sequencers based at the University of Melbourne and University of Queensland. With the growing realization that most microbes cannot be grown in the laboratory, the ability to rapidly obtain single cell genomes directly from any clinical or environmental sample of interest will greatly enhance the ability of the University of Queensland and University of Melbourne scientists to understand and manipulate polymicrobial ecosystems.
