Understanding the control of adult mosquitoes to reduce arbovirus transmission while minimising environmental and public health risk. (2007-2010)

Abstract

This innovative project uses a new wind tunnel research facility in combination with laser imaging systems and electron microscopy to determine the science behind the impaction and recovery of biological and chemical agents on adult mosquitoes. This will lead to a greater understanding of the complex relationships between pesticides, application methods, spray droplets and mosquito behaviour and physiology. The project brings together expertise within the University, local authorities and industry partners to optimise the control of adult mosquitoes, minimise the risk from pesticides to public health and the environment and safeguard Australia from invasive diseases and pests.'',
