Overview

Background

I am a Senior Lecturer in the TC Beirne School of Law. I teach Trusts and Equity, although I am interested in all areas of private law and private law theory.

My PhD research evaluated the High Court's reliance on the principle of 'coherence' in private law adjudication. Parts of this research have been published in leading journals, such as the Melbourne University Law Review and the University of Toronto Law Journal.

Research impacts

The purpose of my research is to assist courts, legal practitioners and policymakers to apply, develop and reform private law doctrine. My research on legal coherence has been cited favourably by the High Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia and the New South Wales Court of Appeal, in a variety of legal contexts. My research on the restraint of trade doctrine was cited favourably in the Australian Government's Competition Review 2024 Issues Paper, Non-competes and Other Restraints: Understanding the Impacts on Jobs, Business and Productivity.
