Overview
Background
Dr. Andrés Gambini graduated with honors as a veterinarian at the University of Río Cuarto, Argentina, in 2008. After a period on an equine farm, he completed a Ph.D. program at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and taught in Animal Production Department. His Ph.D. focused on in vitro embryo production in horses. He produced the first cloned horses born in South America in 2010 and Australia in 2018. In 2015, he started a two years postdoc at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in the USA, where he investigated mechanisms governing embryonic genome activation in mammals. Andrés was invited as a professor at the University of Torino in Italy and the University of Cordoba in Spain. He continues his research in animal cloning, ICSI, and other reproductive biotechnologies. He recently reported the first cloned zebra embryos worldwide. He stood as Assistant Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, providing more than twelve years of lecturing, and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students in areas of animal physiology and reproduction. Currently, he is a senior lecturer in Animal Science, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at University of Queensland, Australia.

Gamete Preservation Technologies
Developing and optimizing innovative methods for the cryopreservation and in vitro storage of gametes to enhance reproductive success in livestock and wildlife. My research focuses on improving sperm, oocyte, and embryo viability post-thaw, with applications in conservation, assisted reproductive technologies, and genetic improvement. This work supports sustainable breeding programs, biodiversity preservation, and advancements in fertility treatments for endangered and domestic species.
-
In Vitro Embryo Development for Animal Production and Conservation
Advancing in vitro embryo production to improve reproductive efficiency in livestock and support conservation efforts for endangered species. My research focuses on optimizing culture conditions, embryo viability, and developmental competence to enhance breeding outcomes. These technologies contribute to genetic improvement, sustainable animal production, and the preservation of biodiversity by enabling the propagation of valuable or at-risk genetic lines.
-
Artificial Intelligence for Breeding and Reproduction Efficiency
Leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance breeding strategies and reproductive efficiency in livestock and wildlife. My research explores machine learning models and predictive analytics to optimize fertility assessment, embryo selection, and reproductive management. By integrating AI with assisted reproductive technologies, this work aims to improve decision-making, increase success rates, and support sustainable breeding programs in both commercial and conservation settings.
Research impacts
Assisted Reproductive techniques and particularly in vitro embryo production have revolutionized the way we are now thinking about animal production and conservation of biodiversity. The future of the animal industry for food, transportation, biomedicine and sports is now relaying on these new different biotechnologies.
