Automated high resolution & high contrast cryoTEM for 3D structural biology (2018-2019)
Abstract
The aim of this proposal is to establish a frontier facility in automated single particle cryo-TEM and cryo-TEM tomography (Titan Krios) that will enable state-of-the-art atomic molecular structure research and 3D subcellular and cellular imaging for Australian scientists. It will span all multiscale cryo-TEM modalities from the visualisation of cells, membranes and macromolecular complexes, through to near-atomic resolution protein structure determination. With more than 200 new protein structures in 2016 achieved at 2-5Å resolution by the Titan Krios, cryo-single particle analysis and tomography are recognised as revolutionary technologies in molecular structural biology and powerful enablers of future ground-breaking discovery.
