His major research areas are functional materials and chemistry, focusing on the design of innovative materials and application functions. ​Dr Xiaodan Huang specialises in electrochemical energy storage and conversion systems, which primarily include rechargeable metal batteries and supercapacitors which are among the leading technologies that have been projected to provide the solution to the complex energy storage gridlock.
