Learning and mentoring in high performance sports coaching (2007-2010)

Abstract

High performing elite sports coaches of necessity must be lifelong learners, engaged in an ongoing quest for effective and successful work performance. Yet, little is known about how they achieve this performance. This project aims to identify, elaborate and verify the contributions of other experts (i.e., mentor coaches) and coaches own self-initiated and -directed learning through their coaching work. It is proposed that a combination of external structures and practices, and the critical and agentic engagement of coaches are interwoven in sustaining high-performance coaching.''
