Knowing in professional practice: Enhancing the relationship between professional education and practice (2011-2013)

Abstract

While governments and companies invest billions in specialized knowledge, there is a gap between knowledge taught in professional education programs and knowledge valued in practice. This research addresses this critical and compelling problem in an original way. It elaborates a life-world perspective that offers a new theoretical framework for investigating knowing in professional practice, with particular focus on the relationship between professional education and practice. It will lead to a) a new and more integrative theory of knowing in professional practice, b) advanced ways of educating aspiring professionals, c) improved management of professional practices, and d) enhanced connection between professional education and practice.
