Improving student outcomes: Coaching teachers in the power of feedback (2017-2021)

Abstract

The project aims to investigate how student outcomes can be augmented through coaching teachers in effective feedback practice. This project is significant as it addresses a critical problem of stagnating levels of student achievement in Australian schools. The innovative research design combines evidence-based, pedagogies of feedback, formative assessment and instructional coaching to improve teacher practice and ultimately raise student achievement levels. Mixed methods will be used to collect data to measure the effects of the feedback intervention and rigorously analyse the results. Outcomes include the proposal of a scalable and sustainable model of feedback intervention to guide future educational policy.
