Our initiatives support the UQ community to build skills, confidence and shared responsibility for safety and wellbeing.

We're committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all students, staff and members of the broader UQ community.

Training

Students, staff and affiliates can access a range of face-to-face and online workshops and educational sessions throughout the year. Sessions include safe events planning, creating safe clubs and societies, and trauma-informed responses to disclosures.

Respect at UQ

Mandatory

Learn how we can all contribute to a culture of consent and respect, and how we can best support someone who has experienced gender-based violence. Refresher training for students is required every 2 years.

Ethical bystander

Recommended

Our ethical bystander training is available to all students, staff and affiliates. This interactive 2.5-hour session can be tailored to a specific cohort (such as a club, college or UQ business area) and focuses on providing practical strategies for addressing inappropriate behaviours.

UQ Safer Communities provides access to a range of learning resources, tools and educational materials to help build a safer UQ. 

UQ Respect Network

Respect Network Ambassadors are UQ staff and students who promote a safe, respectful, inclusive and violence-free culture at UQ.

Respect at Uni Week

Respect at Uni Week encourages us all to consider and learn about ways we can work together to prevent violence and harassment in our communities and create safe and respectful spaces wherever we are.

Campaigns

We deliver a range of campaigns to the UQ community to build awareness of support services and support an inclusive, respectful culture at UQ. Some of our campaigns have focused on:

  • how to compassionately respond to disclosures
  • how to be an ethical bystander
  • healthy relationships
  • highlighting the experiences of LGBTQIA+ members of our community.
