LGBTQIA+ inclusion
The University of Queensland (UQ) is committed to the inclusion, support and advancement of LGBTQIA+ staff, students and community members.
UQ is a safe place for everyone – whether you're studying, working, engaging in research or visiting.
Our commitment to a culture of diversity, inclusion, respect and belonging has been recognised with a Gold Employer ranking in the 2025 Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI). We were the winner of the 2024 Trans & Gender Diverse Inclusion Award and a finalist in 2025.
LGBTQIA+ Action Plan
Our vision is for UQ to be an international leader for the inclusion, respect, support and celebration of the diversity of gender, sex characteristics and sexuality in education and employment.

The UQ Ally Network is a keystone of UQ’s commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
It's an award-winning program that provides a visible network of more than 1,200 well-informed staff who create a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for people of diverse sexes, genders and sexualities at UQ.
UQ Rainbow Installations
In 2025, Progress Pride Flags were painted onto pedestrian crossings, walls and benches on our campuses as part of the Rainbow Installations Project.
This project promotes inclusion and safety for LGBTQIA+ students and staff.

Our Ally Network is committed to advancing allyship across UQ and offers practical advice on how you can become a better ally to create positive change.
