5 years of community
A community of practice connecting more than 550 qualitative and lived experience researchers across UQ and beyond.
3 interconnected research programs
Spanning inclusive methods, accessible technology and real-world translation.

About LEX
LEX is a transdisciplinary research centre founded on a shared commitment to lived and living experience research. Sitting within UQ's Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Behavioural Sciences, we are co-developing LEX with the people it is for, and we want your help to shape it.
Lived/living experience research
Lived/living experience research foregrounds the voices and perspectives of people with direct personal experience.
This can take the form of:
- participatory research where people are active partners in the research process, or
- qualitative research that explores and represents the experiences of people as research participants.
LEX is not defined by a single population or discipline. We work alongside consumers, carers, families, practitioners, communities, industry and government to advance inclusive research methods and co-develop research that leads to real-world impact.
We have a particular focus on improving access, inclusion and participation for people who have traditionally been excluded, underserved, or underrepresented in research and decision-making.
Our vision
We envision a thriving community for lived and living experience research where:
- inter and transdisciplinary collaboration drives methodological innovation
- research capability grows through sustained partnership and shared learning
- excellence in lived and living experience research achieves national and international recognition.
Have your say
LEX is being co-developed with the communities it serves. The information on this webpage is a starting point, not a finished plan. We are hosting a series of events where you can have your say about what LEX becomes. To learn more, email lex@uq.edu.au.
