
Overview
Background
Dr. Kazi Rumana Ahmed is currently serving as an Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, The University of Queensland. Her research focuses on promoting physical activity, healthy behaviours, and mental wellbeing among adolescents through school- and community-based health interventions. She earned her PhD in Public Health from The University of Queensland, where she was nominated for the Dean’s Award for her outstanding doctoral research.
Dr. Ahmed also holds an MPhil in International Community Health from the University of Oslo, Norway, and an MSc in Nutrition from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has held academic positions in Bangladesh for over a decade and has worked as a Senior Research Assistant at the Queensland Digital Health Centre. Her professional experience includes collaborations with WHO, EU, and Johns Hopkins University on public health nutrition, NCD prevention, and tobacco control.
She has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and presented at numerous international conferences. Her primary research interests include adolescent health, physical activity promotion, nutrition, NCDs, health education, and program evaluation across Australia, Bangladesh, and other low-resource settings.

Research impacts
Dr. Kazi Rumana Ahmed is a recognised expert in adolescent health promotion and the prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low-resource settings. Her interdisciplinary research has informed school-based health interventions and contributed to national and community-level health strategies in Bangladesh.
Her work supports the integration of health programs within Bangladesh’s national curriculum and shows strong potential for scale-up across both urban and rural schools. Research findings have influenced the practices of development partners, including BRAC and UNICEF Bangladesh, in their efforts to improve adolescent health and reduce the burden of NCDs.
Dr. Ahmed has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and delivered invited lectures, seminars, and talks in Bangladesh, Australia, Norway, and other international settings.
