Constructing futures: An investigation of the aspirations of young adults with an intellectual disability and their parents (2012-2016)

Abstract

This project focuses on how young adults with an intellectual disability construct their futures. It is the first study to examine the supports and barriers to productive engagement in employment, volunteering and leisure of this group. Data will be gathered on factors hypothesised to be influential in roductive engagement including personal, family, and environmental factors. The findings of this study will be used by organizations that provide services to adults with intellectual disability to better understand the goals of these adults and of their parents, and to create services that reflect these priorities.
