Overview
Background
I am an Associate Professor of Management at UQ Business School with expertise in human resource management, specialising in talent management, global mobility, and the future of work. My research explores how organisations can build sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready workforces that address skills shortages and strengthen leadership capability.
A key focus of my work is workforce transformation, examining how digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping jobs, skills, and careers. I am particularly interested in the digital transformation of HRM, the rise of talent marketplaces, and the emergence of skills-based and algorithmic approaches to talent management. This research provides insights into how organisations can balance innovation, ethics, and inclusion in the evolving world of work.
My work has been published in leading international journals, including Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Management Review, The International Journal of Human Resource Management, International Business Review, Journal of Vocational Behavior, MIT Sloan Management Review, and the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management.
Through collaborations with industry, government, and international research partners, my research delivers evidence-based insights to help organisations and policymakers navigate ongoing workforce and technological transformation.

-
Strategic Talent Management
How organisations identify, develop, and manage talent, including skills-based, algorithmic, and AI-enabled approaches that shape workforce planning and decision-making.
-
Global Careers and Mobility
How employees navigate cross-border careers, hybrid work, and career transitions in dynamic and disrupted work environments.
-
Workforce Transformation
How digital technologies, platform work, and AI are reshaping HRM, organisational processes, and the deployment of human capital in the future of work.
Research impacts
My research addresses the global challenge of building sustainable, inclusive, and future-ready workforces. In an environment defined by skills shortages and workforce transformation, I explore how organisations can design strategic talent systems that enhance capability, equity, and long-term employability.
A key outcome of this work is the Talent Leadership Model, which I developed to reveal four distinct approaches leaders take when managing talent. This framework is helping senior executives and HR professionals better understand leadership behaviours and strengthen their organisation’s enterprise-wide talent strategy.
Through industry and government collaborations, my research informs evidence-based workforce planning and regional skills development, contributing to stronger communities and more adaptable organisations. By translating research into practice through professional publications and leadership development initiatives, my work supports more inclusive, resilient, and future-ready workplaces.

Internal Talent Marketplaces: Strategy, Implementation, and AI
This project explores how organisations implement internal talent marketplaces to enhance workforce agility and strategic talent management. Students will investigate how these marketplaces align with organisational skills strategies, how they support skills-based matching for roles, gigs, and projects, and how upskilling or reskilling pathways are embedded. The research also examines the use of AI and algorithmic methods for skills inference, matching, and predictive analytics, as well as the experiences of employees and stakeholders in adopting these systems. Finally, students will evaluate how organisations measure success, including impacts on internal mobility, retention, skills development, and diversity and inclusion.
-
Future Workforce Capabilities: Development, Transitions, and AI
This project focuses on how organisations identify, develop, and transition talent to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce. Students will examine strategies for cultivating future workforce capabilities, implementing upskilling and reskilling programs, and preparing employees for new roles and work models. The research also considers the role of AI and algorithmic systems in workforce planning, skills matching, and talent development decisions, and investigates how organisations manage workforce transformation to ensure that employees are equipped for the future of work.
-
Digital Transformation of HRM
This project investigates how digital technologies are transforming HR functions and workforce practices. Students will explore the adoption of HR information systems, AI, and data analytics, and how these tools influence recruitment, learning and development, performance management, and employee engagement. The project also examines the effects of digital transformation on workforce planning, employee experience, and organisational effectiveness, considering both strategic opportunities and ethical or practical challenges in implementing technology-driven HR initiatives.
