
Overview
Background
Dr Wenying (Wendy) Jiang taught at the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Alberta in Canada and The University of Western Australia in Perth before taking a position at School of Languages and Cultures at The University of Queensland in Australia. She is a specialist in Applied Linguistics, a graduate of Qufu Normal University (BA 1988, MA 1998) in China, University of Luton (MA 2001) in UK and The University of Queensland (PhD 2006) in Australia. She taught English at Taishan Medical University in China for more than ten years before switching to teaching Chinese as a foreign language in English-speaking countries such as the UK, Canada and Australia. She has been publishing regularly in the fields of second language acquisition, language teaching and learning, and computer assisted language learning (CALL) since 1992. Her monograph "Acquisition of Word Order in Chinese as a Foreign Language" was published by Mouton de Gruyter in 2009. Her article "Measurements of development of L2 written production: the case of Chinese L2" appeared in the journal Applied Linguistics in 2013 is a widely cited piece of publication.

Second language acquisition in Chinese
Acquisition of any aspect of the Chinese language such as culturally loaded words, tones, particles, measure words, Modal verbs and specific structures like ba construction and bei construction. Or L2 mental lexicon (vocabulary acquisition ) in Chinese.

Technology enhanced language learning (TELL)
Well designed online tasks used in task-based language teaching, or generally CALL/TELL tasks used in a foreign language classroom. Or any projects on Chinese pedagogy.

Contrastive analysis between Chinese and English or politeness issues in Intercultural communication.

Wendy's monograph Acquisition of word order in Chinese as a foreign language published by De Gruyter Mouton in 2009 is held by 1226 libraries worldwide across academic institutions in Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Retrieved from https://www.worldcat.org on 3 May 2019.
One of her papers entitled " The relationship between culture and language" published in ELT Journal received 442 citations. She has also been receiving emails from now and then from all over the world requesting the paper as a reference.
Wendy's paper "Measurements of developments in L2 written production: The case of Chinese L2" published in Applied Linguistics has insipired numbers of researchers in measuring Chinese L2 development, for which she often receives acknolodgements at conferences.
Wendy was invited to conduct a training program for teachers of English and English/Chinese translation in the School of Foreign Languages at Qilu University of Technology in Jinan, Shandong, China from 2 to 29 December 2018. She has been officially appointed as a Guest Professor at this university.
Wendy was invited to speak as a specialist in applied linguistics at “Hongmen Dialogue” Expert Forum held at the School of Chinese as a Second Language, Peking University, Beijing, China, on Saturday1st December 2018.
