Building a Collaborative Approach to Teacher and Student Well-being

Abstract

Teacher stress levels and attrition rates are significant and worsening problems in Australia. Student well-being is also declining globally. This project aims to co-design with teachers a collaborative well-being approach that ensures teachers are well-supported by school-wide systems perspectives, with improved teacher-student relationships and enhanced classroom climates. It broadens prior efforts focused on individual teachers to also target their work contexts by extending Job-Demands Resources Theory and adopting a mixed-methods design to empower schools to work in proactive ways. This should provide significant benefits of improving teacher well-being with downstream student benefits.
