Dielectric Characterization of CO2 Sequestration Processes in Mafic Rocks
Abstract
This project investigates CO2 mineralization processes in (largely understudied) mafic and ultramafic deposits for permanent carbon storage. Focusing on the complex thermo-hydro-chemo-mechanical coupling processes involved in such rock formations - including fractures and fissures at various scales - the project tackles pivotal challenges hindering the practical application of this technology. An innovative and important aspect is the development of a methodology to monitor mineralization and fracturing processes using broadband electromagnetic measurements. Once operational, this technology will play a crucial role in reducing CO2 emissions in Australia, making a significant contribution to combat the intensifying climate crisis.
