ESEG_Dusty archives: A 10 ka reconstruction of wind erosion and climate variability from archives of Australian dust deposition (2005-2006)
Abstract
Drought and the ensuing dust storms are emblematic of the Australian landscape. This study will reconstruct the history and causes of climate variability and associated wind erosion over the last 10 ka for eastern Australia by quantifying and provenancing dust deposits retrieved from swamps and alpine mires. Results will provide unparalleled evidence of climate variability (drought and its causes) at sub-regional scale and associated environmental degradation (wind erosion). This new knowledge will form an information base of international significance required for earth system modelling of past and future climate and the enhancement of land and water resource management policy
