Overview
Background
Dr Catherine Kilgour is an academic, clinician-researcher, midwife, registered nurse and neonatal nurse with over 30 years of experience in clinical practice, health service leadership, research and higher education.
Prior to joining The University of Queensland, she held senior project, policy and advisory roles within Queensland Health, contributing to statewide initiatives including Subject Matter Expert for the Perinatal eHealth Program and an NHMRC-funded randomised controlled trial.
Catherine is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), an active member of the Statewide Maternity and Neonatal Clinical Network (SMNCN), a member of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences Human Research Ethics Committee, and serves on the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work Assessment Subcommittee.
Her research focuses on health promotion, health equity and healthcare quality, with interests in vulnerable populations, Indigenous health, maternal and newborn health, mental health, and the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. She is co-author of the open-access textbook Quality in Healthcare: Assessing What We Do (2024), which supports students and health professionals to develop skills in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, patient safety and healthcare evaluation.
Catherine’s work aims to translate evidence into practice to improve health outcomes and strengthen equitable healthcare delivery.
