Overview

Background

Dr Sandleen is a lecturer and the discipline lead in Restorative Dentistry & Dental Materials at The University of Queensland. She is an interdisciplinary researcher, and her expertise lies in translational research in cariology,biomaterials and regenerative medicine. Her background in clinical dentistry also persuaded her to work in close collaboration with materials scientists, clinicians and industry partners to provide minimally invasive restorative treatment options to patients.She received her doctorate from the University of Otago (New Zealand), discovering a novel route for keratin extraction using ionic liquids to design alveolar bone grafts. She worked on several research projects related to improved formulations of oral care products for better health outcomes.She is a passionate medical educator involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in New Zealand, Australia and overseas.

    Her research focuses on cariology and biomaterials: 1.Developing bioactive materials to prevent and arrest caries. 2. Developing novel bone grafts from keratin for bone regeneration applications.
