Research interests

  • Speculative fiction

I am fascinated by fantasy, science fiction, and hybridised fiction that explores worlds different to our own. From my perspective, speculative stories can grant readers and researchers valuable distance from a real-life issue, and this paradoxically allows them to draw nearer to the heart of the issue by viewing it in a new way. My doctoral thesis explored using speculative fiction to represent depression in a diversity of ways that are likely to resonate with emerging adults. I remain interested in magic systems, alternative societies, and the supernatural in fiction, and write and publish genre fiction in the form of novels and short stories. I write genre fiction for children, teens, and adults.
