Overview
Background
Dr Monika Coha is a General Practitioner and Senior Lecturer in the General Practice Clinical Unit. Prior to this, she worked at Monash University in Melbourne as a medical educator and education researcher. She is passionate about medical education and currently involved with teaching Year 2 and Year 4 students at UQ rotating through their General Practice rotation. Her research interests involve trauma-informed medical education, and clinically she has a special interest in Women's Health.

Medical Education
I am passionate about medical education and how we can support the wellbeing of medical students, while also preparing them for entering the workforce. I participate and contribute to Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the General Practice Clinical Unit, exploring research opportunities and efforts to practice evidence-based education. I am also undertaking further learning in the Graduate Certificate of University Teaching at the University of Queensland.

Trauma-Informed Medical Education
I have a particular interest in trauma-informed education, which stems from my clinical work practicing trauma-informed care. Given our medical students are individuals from all walks of life, I recognise their backgrounds and lived experiences are diverse. I am interested in supporting their psychological safety while moving through university while also ensuring preparedness for clinical practice.
Research impacts
Dr Monika Coha's research explores how trauma-informed medical education principles can support student psychological safety in the teaching of sensitive topics.
Her publication in Medical Teacher uses a qualitative approach to build on trauma-informed medical education research in the Australian landscape. This has subsequently informed review of Year 4 General Practice teaching strategies at the University of Queensland.
