Overview

Background

Guilherme (Yoshi) joined the Plant Epigenomics and Biotechnology Lab in 2026, where he currently investigates the pan-hypomethylomes of cereal diversity panels in search of novel epigenomic alleles, using the Lab's own sequencing technology UMR-seq. Prior to this, Guilherme carried out his PhD project in genetics and developmental biology at the Boden Lab, Adelaide University, where he found the genetic basis of the historic Multiovary-1 allele, which causes the formation of multiple grains per floret in addition to secondary spikelets. His research interests lie in plant (epi)genomics, biotechnology, and floral development with a focus on meristem regulation.
