New ways to improve cardiovascular function by modulating the hormone adiponectin (2009-2010)

Abstract

A number of factors contribute to the association between obesity and common diseases. One key factor is a reduction in the circulating levels or actions of a hormone called adiponectin. This project aims to characterise a novel protein that helps to mediate adiponectin's beneficial effects and a process involved in removal of adiponectin from the blood. This may lead to the development of novel therapeutic strategies to prevent type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
